S2BACLightDP - S2 Douglas/Panasonic Lighting Relay Controller

Overview

The S2BACLightDP is an intelligent lighting relay controller designed to control twenty-four (24) Aromat/Panasonic/Douglas Lighting Relays (WR-6221, WR-6161, etc) used primarily in commercial lighting control applications.  The S2BACLightDP also provides support for eight (8) configurable Group Inputs, two (2) HVAC and DC Compatible Binary Inputs, along with multiple communication interfaces for standalone and/or integration in the site's Bus Building Management System (BMS).

S2BACLightDP was designed as a Douglas Lighting Controls Replacement Solution

The S2BACLightDP can be used as direct replacement to Douglas Lighting's older WRS-2224 Lighting Scanner, but with more features and functionality while maintaining the same size of the original WRS-2224 device.  In fact we are currently the only manufacturer that offers a directly compatible Douglas controller along with supporting Douglas switches and other Douglas products.   Below are links to the S2BACLightDP device along with a comparison between our device and the WRS-2224.   Additionally the S2BACLightDP can be used as to upgrade/replacement for many other Douglas Controllers such as the WR-8812, WR-8824, WTS-4181, WTP-4408, WR-8801, MC-6416, etc.  Effectively, the S2BACLightDP can be used as a Douglas Lighting Controller replacement solution.

Relay Availability  - Yes, Douglas direct replacement and compatible relays are available.

Please note that although Douglas Lighting is no longer in business, the relays they offered were made by other manufacturers and were labelled as Douglas.  Consequently, there are several other vendors that offer the same or directly compatible relays allowing Douglas and other 2-wire relay lighting control system customers to maintain their existing systems and in doing so maintain their capital investment.   The latter cannot be understated, as the cost to remove and reinstall another lighting control system can be substantial along with being highly disruptive to the area lighting and occupants.  As a reference, it takes only a few hours to replacing/upgrade an existing Douglas WRS-2224 lighting system with our S2BACLightDP device.

S2BACLightDP can be used with non Douglas Based Lighting Control systems

Although the S2BACLightDP was designed to replace/upgrade the Douglas controllers, the S2BACLightDP can be used to upgrade other lighting control systems or used on its own in standalone or (Bacnet, Ethernet, etc) networked applications..  To date the S2BACLightDP has successfully been used to upgrade GE Total Lighting Control (TLC) and LC&D (now owned by Acurity) installations.  The resulting upgrade solution maintained all of the electrical infrastructure and in doing so the customer realized substantial savings (GE customer saved in excess of $300K) with virtually no disruption to their lighting areas or those within.

GE (and equivalent) RR7 and RR9 Relay Support

The S2BACLightDP was designed to directly support the Douglas/Panasonic/Aromat and other 2-wire Lighting relays, however, with a simple add-on plug, the S2BACLightDP can now support GE RR7 (3-wire) or RR9 (5-wire) relays as well.   In fact, the add-o module allows S2BACLightDP installations to mix and match both GE and Douglas/Panasonic/Aromat relays on the same S2BACLightDP controller.

S2BACLightDP Part Number Versions and Protocol Support

All S2BACLightDP Versions use the same hardware and are differentiated primarily by the communication protocols that are supported by the respective S2BACLightDP part number.  However, all part number/version can be field changed with a simple and fast firmware change.  it is noted that there is no extra charge for requesting a different firmware version than what was originally ordered and so customers can migrate or try different firmware versions without concern.

Field firmware updates or changes is done via the S2BACLightDP's USB interface and a Windows based Computer/laptop. No extra or specialty software is needed other than the firmware image to be installed.  The entire firmware update process takes approximately 5-10 seconds.

S2BACLightDP Windows Configuration Application

To assist the installer with the configuration process of the S2BACLightDP devices, we have released a Free Windows based application.  The application can be directly connected to the S2BACLightDP device's MSTP interface (via a RS485/MSTP interface such as our S2USB485), or anywhere onto the site's BMS Network (Bacnet IP or MSTP ).  Please view our dedicated webpage on this application for more information along with a quick start guide link (S2BACLightDPConfig).

Proudly designed, manufactured, and supported in Edmonton/Calgary, AB, Canada
